The state government has notified a grid of roads for the parts of Bengaluru Urban district outside the Greater Bengaluru Authority's limits. Hundreds of roads are covered, some of them now as narrow as 10 m. They are notified at 30 m or 45 m wide, and in some cases up to 90 m. The network runs to thousands of kilometres.

What it means for land

Land inside a notified road has to be left vacant when a layout or a house is built. Building a house or a layout on it is a violation of the law, the Bengaluru Development Minister said when announcing the grid on 29 September.

For land deals outside GBA limits

Land can carry every approval and still lie on a notified road, and the part inside the road must stay vacant. For developers planning layouts or projects outside GBA limits, and for landowners pricing land there, the grid now bears on a parcel's buildable area. Check every parcel against it before agreeing a price or a joint development.
