From 6 November, goods vehicles, KSRTC buses and private buses may not use Ballari Road between UAS Staff Quarters and Mekhri Circle for 18 months, which runs to May 2028. The Bangalore Development Authority is building a four-lane elevated road there. Cars, two-wheelers and autos can still use the road.
What is being built
The elevated road, about ₹450 crore, is one part of the ₹2,215 crore Hebbal–Mekhri Circle project the state cabinet approved in December 2025. The project also includes a short twin-tunnel road, an underpass at Mekhri Circle and new roads around Hebbal Lake.
The elevated road joins the tunnel, which is under construction. One end of the tunnel needs Ballari Road dug up, which may come later.
Diversions
The traffic police advisory sends airport traffic via Tannery Road and Nagawara, or from Yeshwanthpur via Mattikere Road, BEL Circle and the Ring Road.
The metro in the same window
Over the same 18 months, the airport metro is not expected to open before late 2027 between Hebbal and the airport, with KR Puram–Hebbal after it.
For projects north of Hebbal
For developers with projects north of Hebbal, and for landowners and capital partners in the corridor, the main road into the city carries no buses or goods vehicles on this stretch until mid-2028, and the airport metro is not expected before late 2027. Construction deliveries on the stretch now run on the diversions too.
